Get ready to bawl, kids. Regin Crespin tells it like it is.

Inspiration of the Day

If I could hope to be half of the artist Lorraine Hunt Lieberson was, I would die happy.

Check her out in a staged version of Handel’s oratorio about early Christian persecution, “Theodora.” Obviously directed by Peter Sellars, complete with choreography.

I don’t know about you, but I was brought to tears, and am speechless.

You know, I was going to write all about how she inspired me to be an artist, not just a singer, how I want to touch people like she touched me… Eh. It’s redundant and lame, and I can tell Opera News all about it when I’m famous.

So… enjoy.

I ran out of coffee this morning.

Normally I’d be leaving for work right now, but I have an audition this afternoon, so I took the whole day off because I am a lazy pile and any excuse to leave that stifling, flowery-wallpapered hellhole where I am forced to speak small talk language all day is an excuse that I’m going to milk for all it’s worth. Granted, I am going to have to work late every other day this week to make up for this blessed day, but that doesn’t matter today. No, not right now.

Aaaaaaand it’s only Tuesday.

Let’s be honest: I am really excited to hang out in PJs and watch Maury. It’ll be just like my unemployment days. Memories…. from the corner of my miiiiiind…. misty, water-colored memories… of the way we weeeeeeeeeere…

Hopefully I’ll sing pretty this afternoon, because I’ve officially been rejected from everything. What a treat. I had a fabtastic audition this last Saturday; just me and two others sang two aria, and the panel talked to me for 10 minutes about my life and career, etc. and were really complimentary. One gave me a thumbs up, which I appreciate both for its friendliness and early 90’s style.

However.

This sort of thing has never resulted in a job. This also happened to me with this company two years ago, so…. grain of salt. But it’s nice to feel validated, even just for a second, and even if I don’t get the gig.

*sigh*

Oh, hustling for a singing job. It is exhausting. I have to get READY and shave my LEGS and curl my HAIR and inevitably BURN myself with a CURLING IRON and put on enough makeup to suffocate a WHORE…

All so I can sing for under 10 minutes for some peeps who probably won’t even remember me in an hour.

It’s almost funny.

Almost.
